Vegetation Workshop at Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve

The Jigme Khersar Strict Nature Reserve (JKSNR) organized two days workshop on vegetation with effect from 29-30th April 2016 with technical support from the Watershed Management Division, Thimphu.  During the time, the Chief of JKSNR highlighted that it is important to understand the habitat (soil, water and climate) to study about the vegetation. He also briefed that it is important to carry out the measurement of the parameters (tree, shrub and ground herbs) and importantly to understand the whole stratum of the vegetation. In whole ecology it is nothing considered as useless and each and every species have their own ecological role to play said the Chief.

The workshop highlighted starting from the field survey, data computation, data analysis through Microsoft Excel and other statistical software, data interpretation, paper writing, review process, publication and until the result dissemination. The participants also familiarized on Shannon’s Diversity Index (H’) Calculation to find out (the diversity, dominance, density and compostion) and also familiarized with the PCORD software which is another ecological analysis packages. The resource person also briefed that it is important to maintain metrological data to get the clue and history of any desired species, which depends solely on climatic factor. The Chief of JKSNR mentioned that we have enough study on diversity of plants; however, it is important to quantify to know the individual status of the species for better management prescription.

The above vegetation has been scheduled exclusively for the officials of Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve; nonetheless, the Wangdue Forest Division would like to thank the management of JKSNR for accepting our participation.
